Marketplace Listing Quality Score: How to Raise It

Why marketplace listing quality scores drop and how to fix missing colour, title and category findings in bulk from one panel instead of product by product.

A marketplace listing quality score measures how complete and consistent the fields on your product page are. When title, category, colour, size, images and attributes are filled in and correct, the score rises; when they are missing, the listing drops in search, gets excluded from promotions and can even be suppressed. The way to raise the score is not to open products one at a time but to see every gap in one list and close them in bulk. This guide explains why scores fall and how missing findings are cleared from a single panel.

Why quality scores drop

Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Trendyol and other marketplaces grade product pages with different criteria, but the causes of a low score are nearly identical. The most common is missing fields: no colour, an empty size chart, brand set to "other". The second is a wrong category. Putting a women's blouse into a generic "women's clothing" node instead of "women's tops" costs points because the required attributes of the right node are counted as empty.

The third is an inconsistent title. The same product reads "Black Blouse" on one marketplace and "Blouse Black Women Short Sleeve" on another; each marketplace prescribes its own title pattern and penalises listings that ignore it. The fourth is image quality: low resolution, a non-white background, the same picture reused across variants.

All of these share one root cause: there is no single source. A product typed by hand into each marketplace ends up with a different gap on each one. Because criteria and required fields change by marketplace and by season, check the current list in the seller help centre of the marketplace concerned.

One catalog source: write content once

The first condition for a lasting score increase is keeping product data in one place. That place can be your e-commerce platform, such as Shopify or WooCommerce, or an XML feed. Title, description, colour and size variants, images and attributes live there, and every marketplace is fed from it.

The integration does two jobs at this point. First, it translates a source field into the field each marketplace expects: what you call "colour" is "color" on Amazon and something else on Trendyol, and each accepts a different list of values. Second, when something changes at the source, it updates every channel; fix a title once and it is fixed on ten channels.

This setup is described in Shopify and WooCommerce marketplace integration and XML integration and the Google Merchant feed. Whatever the source, the rule is the same: content is written in one place and travels from there.

Category and attribute mapping

Category mapping is where most quality points are lost. Your own category tree and the marketplace's tree never match; your "Blouse" sits under "Women > Clothing > Blouses" on one marketplace and on a different path on another. Each node also brings its own required attributes: fabric, sleeve type, neckline, pattern.

You map once per category, and every product in that category uses the same mapping. Then you look at the required attributes: which products have an empty sleeve type, which have no fabric. When these findings are listed by field rather than by product, they appear as a single line such as "sleeve type empty on 84 products" and can be filled in bulk.

Colour mapping deserves its own mention. Marketplaces use a fixed colour list; what you call "anthracite" may have to be "grey" there. An unmatched colour counts as empty and lowers the score. Once a colour dictionary is built, new products match automatically.

The quality tab: closing findings with one click

Everything so far is preparation; the real work is closing gaps regularly. Bulutegra has a quality tab for exactly this. It scans products across every channel and lists three basic finding types: missing colour, missing or non-compliant title, missing or wrong category.

Each finding appears per product and channel: which product, on which marketplace, which field is missing. You select the finding and apply the fix with one click; the system takes the value from the source or the mapping dictionary, converts it to the marketplace's format and sends it. Instead of opening hundreds of products, you work down the list.

The second benefit is measurement. If there were 300 findings on Monday, you can see how many are left on Friday. Rather than telling the content team to "raise the quality score", you tell them to "clear this week's findings", which is a concrete target.

The third benefit is that it works on new products. When a product is about to go live, the quality tab shows the gap beforehand, so the listing is fixed before it launches with a low score and sinks in search.

Producing content: descriptions, languages, size charts

Once the missing fields are closed, the strength of the content is next. A short, dry description does not lower the score, but it does not sell either. Every product needs a description in the marketplace's pattern that lists attributes and describes how the product is used.

Writing that by hand for hundreds of products is not realistic. Content Studio generates a description from the product's existing attributes with AI, prepares the same text in several languages, turns the size list into a size-chart image and produces a short promotional video. The generated text is written back to the source and travels to every channel from there: produced once, used everywhere.

For international marketplaces multilingual content is mandatory; an English description will not go live on Amazon Germany. The cross-border marketplace integration guide covers that side. For the order of content preparation when listing in bulk, see bulk product listing on marketplaces.

Weekly quality checklist

Content quality is not a one-off job. Run this list once a week:

  1. Any open findings in the quality tab? Close missing colour, title and category findings with one click.
  2. Are newly added products mapped to the right category? Move products that fell into a generic node to the specific one.
  3. Are required attribute fields empty? Fill fabric, sleeve type, material and similar fields in bulk.
  4. Any new colours to add to the dictionary? Register unmatched colours.
  5. Do images follow marketplace rules? Background, resolution, variant images.
  6. Are descriptions long enough for each channel? Expand short ones with Content Studio.
  7. Is the language right on international channels? Each marketplace should carry content in its own language.

How it works with Bulutegra

Bulutegra pulls product data from Shopify, WooCommerce, an XML feed or a Turkish e-commerce platform such as ikas or Ticimax; category, attribute and colour mapping is done once and the data is sent to more than 24 marketplaces in that structure. The quality tab lists missing colour, title and category findings per product × channel; findings are fixed with one click and pushed to the marketplace. Content Studio generates descriptions, multilingual text, size-chart images and promotional videos, and the output is written back to the source so every channel receives it. A user with the Content role sees only these screens and never touches stock or accounting. All modules are listed under Solutions.

Frequently asked questions

What is a marketplace listing quality score?

It is the marketplace's rating of how complete and consistent your product page is. Title, images, category, colour, size and attribute fields that are filled and correct raise the score; low-scoring listings rank lower in search and are excluded from some promotions. The exact criteria differ by marketplace.

Do I have to enter every product separately on each marketplace?

No. Keep product data in one catalog source and map it to each marketplace's fields and categories through the integration. When a title or description changes at the source, every channel updates at once.

Can missing-content findings be fixed in bulk?

Yes. A quality tab lists missing colour, title and category findings per product and channel; you fix them with one click and the corrections are sent to the marketplaces concerned. There is no need to open hundreds of products one by one.
